It’s the Weekend!

This week has been somewhat calmer than the week before when we found out that Ryan Carter’s life was taken.  A 10 year old boy stabbed him while he was trying to defend another little boy.  The scuttle ultimately ended Ryan’s life.   Yesterday was the Memorial Service  (A Celebration of Life) at our church which was beautifully orchestrated.  There wasn’t a dry eye in the sanctuary.  What really made it hit home for me is when his teacher Mrs. Atherton got up to speak.  You see, had I decided to teach 6th Grade this year, Ryan would have been in my class.  I would have been the one up there to share what I knew of Ryan.  Unfortunately I didn’t know Ryan well.  But through Mrs. Atherton’s endearing sediments of him, I did get to know him a little more.  We may never know why this happened, but one day when I meet my Lord in heaven, maybe it will all be clear.  If you’d like to read the full story you can HERE.  Three of the little boys in this video were in my Math class last year and I’m so proud of them for remembering Ryan the way they did.

*Shew*  On a lighter note, I made the best baked potato casserole last night.  I kind of just threw the ingredients together not really measuring, but I could eat the entire dish!

4-7 Potatoes, cut in small bite size pieces
In a bowl, I combined 1 cup of sour cream with 1 cup of cream cheese with the following spices:
*paprika
*salt & pepper
*garlic powder
*cayenne pepper
I stirred it all well and added the potatoes and tossed
I then sprayed a 9×13 dish with Pam and layered 1/2 of the potatoes on the bottom, then covered with a mix of cheddar and Mozerella cheese, then added the remaining potatoes and again covered with cheese.  Baked at 375-400 degrees for an hour or a bit more.  They were really yummy and I even used left overs for breakfast burritos this morning.

My husband has been asking what is up with me lately because I’ve been trying all these new recipes with great success.  I just feel he’s been so busy keeping up the over grown yard, helping coach Olivia’s soccer team, that I want to have a nice hot meal for him to come in to.

This weekend is all about purging.  I’ve been so interested in organizing photos from Pinterest that it’s motivated me to just clean out! EVERYTHING!!!  Today it’s all about my office.  Paperwork makes me crazy and I need to buy a new Scan Snap quick! I have my older PC version for sale for cheap if anyone is interested and I’ll even show you how to use.  Once you go paperless, you won’t go back to anything else.  If and when the office is done, I’ll move to another zone.  Probably the armoire in the living room.  It’s stuffed full of homeschool stuff that we rarely use anymore.

Speaking of purging, I am thinking of selling all of my stamps.  Most were originally from D.O.T.S.  If you are interested, let me know.

Hope everyone has a beautiful, productive weekend.  Please remember Ryan and his family as well as the family of the little boy that did this.  For all we feel a great sadness!

Blessings,

Shh….

Wait!!  Can you heart that????  It’s peace and quiet in the Smith home!  Seems I’m alone today and couldn’t be happier!!  Rich took Olivia to Borrego Springs (2 hours away) for a soccer game and won’t be home until late.  Cameron is at work, and Zach is at friend’s houses.  So I got up early, made Rich and Olivia lunches, talked to God and went back to bed with my fur babies.  They recently got spayed so I’m keeping an eye on them.

Today I’m going to be semi-productive and by that I mean a “do what I feel like” day!  It’s colder  than normal and cloudy as we are awaiting rain tomorrow.  I might just crawl up and watch at movie today.  I can’t read because my Kindle froze up on me and won’t even charge.

This week at school was unusually busy.  I’m not complaining, it really makes my work day go by faster.  I thank the Lord every day for putting me in the position I am.  I didn’t know if I would have opportunity to minister to others like I did with the kids in the classroom, but once again, God has surprised me and I have been able to in my little office.  What a blessing!

On a lighter note, Is there anyone addicted to Pinterest as much as I am??  I am loving the great ideas and tips.  Kindof motivates me to keep organized more and find new ways to keep it that way as well.  If you aren’t a member, I can send you an invite, just let me know!

Ok….I’m going to go and enjoy my quiet for the rest of the day!

God Bless and ave a beautiful weekend!

Loving Rainy Days~

Ok, so normally, days like these cause me to want to curl up on the couch with a fire and a good book or movie, but today turned out  unexpectedly productive.  I have this real desire to get my house in order and not just in order, but really organized.  With a house as big as ours, I always seem to be misplacing something or I put it somewhere and forget later. It’s not lack of organization, but I think I have too many zones.  So today, I collectively decided to start downsizing in clutter, things, and zones.

To me there needs to be clear zones.  Not too many.  For instance, office zone for bill paying, incoming/outgoing mail zone.  This is where I put all incoming mail if I can’t get to it right away.  Coat and keys zone, a shoe zone (my kids can’t come in the house with their shoes on).  All of these zones get used often, but not quite as often as the kitchen.  I have lots of storage in my kitchen, but to me it doesn’t seem like enough.  So today was Operation Organize in the kitchen.  I knew I couldn’t do it all in one day or even a week, but baby steps will get me there.  Today I tackled the drawers.  I cleaned out three junk drawers and made one a school zone.  For those flyers and paperwork you get from your kids daily.  All there and in one place.  The other drawer I’ve left empty.  (Cuz you never know *wink*)

And lastly, I tackled this drawer.

Now, you know you all have one.  It’s where all the miscellaneous kitchen gadgets go.  Well, I got a new product by Drawer Decor.  It is the neatest thing for organizing your drawers.

I was so surprised how well it turned out.  I’m sorry this picture doesn’t do it justice, but it’s bright orange, so my camera wasn’t liking it.  But if you go to the website you’ll see what I mean.  All of your utensils stay in place and do not move!!!  A real plus!   I have plans to do two more drawers and am anxious to see what other items I can use with these.  So stop that procrastinating and get to those drawers.  You’d be surprised how many you will get done in a week if you do one every day.

I’m off to eat homemade chili on this awesome rainy day.

Blessings,

Kacy
